Christmas Dog Clothes
Give yourself one less thing to worry about during the holiday shopping season, and get the Christmas dog clothes out of the way.
Dog Holiday Poncho

Let’s talk about Christmas Dog Clothes. Doesn’t it feel like Christmas is always a couple weeks away, or even sooner when we start our holiday shopping? (well, for most of us).
Every year we shop, shop, and shop some more, and then all of a sudden we realize that we forgot to shop for our adorable pet’s holiday outfit. Sure, you could go to the nearest pet store and find that every style is out of the size you need, even the next size up is out of stock.
Christmas Naughty or Nice Dog T-Shirt

What do we do? We go online where we can find exactly what we want, in what size, and heck, we can probably even get the color that we want. Because dog clothes are not very expensive, we can even afford to pay for the shipping so that our little furry friend will be just as festive as the rest of the family.
There are other alternatives. You could create your pet’s Christmas outfit with your own sewing machine (phew, I’m tired just thinking about it). You could as Grandma to knit him or her a Christmas sweater
, or a pet Elf Costume
.
My bet would be that you have the same amount of time for that as you have reading this article.
Elf in Training Holiday Dog Pet Tank

With that said, take a look around, and find your pet some Christmas dog clothes, order them, have them shipped right to your door, and your pet is all set for the holidays. You could even order your pets Christmas dog collar, Christmas gifts or stocking stuffer’s
if you celebrate your pet in that way.
Either way, don’t let the fact that you are without your dog’s Christmas apparel add more stress to your holiday season. Get them on order now, and worry about the rest of the items on your 10-page list.
I hope you have a wonderful Holiday season, and may your pet be the most festive on the block!

Pug Facts – How Much Do You Know About Pugs?
Pug Myths – What’s True, and Not So True About the Pug Dog Breed
Pug myths will circulate and it is important to be able to separate the true facts from the false ones. If you are interested in purchasing a pug you should be aware of the true concerns and discard all of the false information that is currently out in circulation. Pugs are very nice, small dogs that love being around people. They come in many colors, silver, black, apricot, fawn and tan. They are typically very compact dogs with square bodies. There are a few myths floating around that state that you can get your pug to stop shedding. In response to this I would mention a well-known statement that pug owners use. Pugs only shed once, for 365 days. Pugs never stop shedding; they shed everywhere and all the time. You will see fur on your clothes, the carpets, furniture and any area that your pug is. Be ready with that vacuum cleaner, as you will be using it a lot.
One of the interesting and not altogether untrue pug myths is that pugs eyes can pop out. This can actually happen but eyes do not pop out by themselves. A pug’s eye will pop out if an accident occurs or some action occurs in just the perfect order and pop, out comes the eye. If immediate medical attention is sought then your dog should be fine. It is also important to remember that does not happen to every dog, in fact very few pugs have this issue. However it does occur so you should be aware of it.
Many people also think that pugs are very lazy and inactive. It is true that pugs do enjoy sleeping but they are very social and active dogs. Many times pug owners who are not at home much find that they will be purchasing another pug in order to keep the first dog company. Pugs have very strong personalities and they like to be around others. In order to show your pug who is boss you should be prepared to be assertive otherwise your dog will walk all over you.
One of the most harmful pug myths, which also applies to most dogs, is that pugs can actually eat chocolate. This is completely false as all forms of chocolate contain theobromine, which is harmful to dogs. The reason why your dog may not have had a problem with chocolate in the past is that different chocolate contain varying amounts of theobromine. It is better to be safe then sorry and you should cut out chocolate from your dog’s diet completely.
Buckled Camouflage Dog Collar
Buckled Camouflage Dog Collar
So how do you choose the right collar for your dog?
There are so many aspects to consider. This may sound crazy I know but before you continue think about what would be important to you if you had to wear it every day. The color would play a part and the material would be hugely important to aid comfort and avoid irritation. The strength of the collar would matter as well as how long it would last. The size is VITAL. What we really need to think about also is what are we going to be using it with. What type of lead and what will the collars primary use be? Control? Safety? Fashion? Identification?
Collars:
Buckle collars also known as flat collars can be found in most types of materials including leather, nylon, polyester and faux leather and/or suede. The buckles on these collars are really very similar to the one you would find on your 501 Levi jeans. The beauty about these sort of collars is, due to the buckle collar, they are easily adjustable so that they are comfortable and yet functional. Flat collars are the most popular types of collars on the market as a result of this. Buckle collars are also popular as it is so easy to attach an identity tag or medication tag onto them.
Stud collars are pretty similar to the buckle/flat collars above however in addition, they have studs on them to protect your Pup from being bitten on the neck by another more ferocious dog. You often see very stocky breeds wearing these, for fashion purposes, rather than safety.
The Elizabethan collar are the collars that you will often see pets walking out of the vets with. These are used to prevent dogs from scratching or biting their recent wounds. They are often put on by vets after an operation. Dogs in particular like to lick their wounds along with other areas of their body which means that infection could easily be spread to wounds, hence the collar is fitted. It is unlikely that your pup will like you much for putting an Elizabethan collar on them. They can spend hours trying to get it off and it can take them days to get used to it.
In addition to their buckle collar, it is more than likely that throughout your pets life they will at some point get fleas. There are fleas collars available for all pets. These collars are soaked in flea repellent and usually placed alongside their normal collar until the fleas have disappeared. The flea collars are usually very effective. There are a number of other types of treatment for your pets with fleas.
Buckle collars, stud collars, flea collars and Elizabethan collars are just the beginning. There are so many shapes, sizes and types of collars available. Again, it is important that you the owner weigh up the pros and cons of each collar. Function before fashion.

The Pug Handbook – Everything You Need to Know About Pugs!
Available on Amazon.com
What You Will Get With A Pug
Before getting a Pug you want to consider both the positive and negative aspects. Health issues and shedding are two things to consider. Finally you should consider the issue to house training.
Pug dogs are an excellent breed of dog and many choose to add more than one to their household. However, as with all dog breeds, the Pug isn’t for everyone and every household. Therefore, it is best to consider the negative aspects of the breed before determining if they are the right dogs for you and your household. By properly selecting a breed that will work with you then you can make sure you have a positive experience. By doing your research and considering the negative aspects of a Pug dogs you will be able to determine if the personality and lifestyle of a put will fit with you and your household. So carefully and seriously consider the nature and characteristics of Pug dogs before you make the decision to add one to your household. The three most difficult areas include health issues, shedding and house training. Each will be discussed in more detail next.
Genetic health issues are common with Pug dogs. So the Pug is likely to need more veterinary care than other breeds. While this doesn’t mean that your Pug will have health problems, it is still a good idea to be prepared to spend a good portion of your time and money at the vet’s office. So if you don’t like the sound of making this type of twelve plus year commitment then you may want to consider another breed of dog.
Another common problem with Pug dogs is shedding. They will shed more than other breeds even with a short coat. So if you don’t want to deal with fur all over your house, car and clothes then you might want to consider another breed. You will just have to deal with the shedding of a Pug since there isn’t much you can do to reduce the shedding. The only way to keep the hair down is with regular cleaning in order to keep your house, car and clothes looking presentable.
The last issue to consider with Pug dogs is house training. When it comes to dog breeds, the Pug isn’t the easiest to train. Due to their small size they are more difficult to train than a larger breed dog, which has a greater capacity to hold. Although size isn’t the only obstacle, it is also the issue that Pug dogs tend to be very stubborn at times, making them less cooperative to train than other dog breeds. Those wh 1000 o have owned Pug dogs before or have a skilled training system in place from owning any breed of dog before, then training a Pug may be able to happen within three months of adding the dog to your household. However, in general you should expect to take at least a year or more to teach Pug dog proper house training techniques. So if you don’t want to deal with a puppy that isn’t house trained for a few years then you likely don’t want a Pug.

Dog Training Collars And Harnesses – Making The Proper Selection Is Essential To Training Success
Dog training is an art, and like any artist you must pick your tools carefully in order to properly train your dog. Each dog is different, and thus you must be able to decide which collar is most appropriate for your dog based on its temperament, personality, and strength. Below, you will find a description of all the major varieties of dog training collars that you might come across when deciding to purchase one for you pooch.
The metal choke collar is perhaps the most popular and widely used collar in the dog training world. It should be used in training larger, stronger dogs that tend to take YOU for a walk.
The metal toggle choke collar is basically the same as you regular choke collar with the major difference being that you can correct you dog easily by using the toggle while your dog is off-leash.
The pinch collar should be used RARELY and only in situations where the choke collar is ineffective in controlling your dog (i.e. in situations where your dog is very strong, where its highly aggressive, and when it repeatedly lunges at other dogs and people).
The fur saver choke collar is designed to control the dog without leaving chain marks around the dogs’ neck or getting fur caught in the chain which sometimes occurs when using an ordinary metal choke collar. It is mainly used when showing dogs and NOT in training them because the dogs don’t tend to respond to them in training and they don’t give the quick jerk needed for proper correction.
The nylon choke collar is best used in small dogs and puppies up to 3 months, because they tend to be more gentle and they tend to get young puppies used to wearing a collar.
The gentle head leader is best used on dogs that are more shy and easily corrected (i.e. dogs that respond quickly to your commands and dogs that tend to cringe upon your correction).
The electronic collar is mainly used for two reasons: first its used on field dogs (i.e. in bird hun 1000 ting) and second it is used as a means of training the “out” command to a protection dog in its bite training phase.
The tracking harness is used for exactly what its name suggests: for tracking game, suspects, lost individuals, or competition articles.
And finally, the seeing eye dog harness is designed so that the dog’s owner can hang on to the lead while the dog guides her to her destination. Unlike other leads, this lead is designed so that the dog can pull its owner forward as it walks instead of gently walking beside her on loose lead.
Training your dog properly is extremely important for a long, healthy relationship. If we don’t do our part to train our pets, they will likely be unhappy and nervous.

Christmas Dog Collars
It’s Time to Order your Favorite Christmas Dog Collar for the Holiday Season! Get if off your list, and move on to more stressful items!
Dog Santa Bandanna

With Christmas right around the corner, it may be time to start thinking about that time honored tradition of giving and receiving gifts. For that all important 4-legged member of the family, why not look at purchasing a designer dog collar. A designer collar is not only a fun way to show off your Ho-Ho hound during the holidays, but it is also an investment that can be used every season if you so choose.
Plaid Bow-Tie Dog Collar

Designer dog collars are more unique at Christmas as they are designed with that specific holiday in mind. Like with all dog collars, the ones made for Christmas offer consumers a wide variety of colors, material, price, and design. You can select a collar made of nylon, fabric, or leather depending on what price point you are interested in. Nylon and fabric type collars are likely your best bet as the selection is vast and inexpensive. In addition, these collars generally offer a choice of buckle, whether it be metal or the quick, one-hand snap and release type.
Jingle Bells Collar

For those with discerning tastes, there is a designer dog collar out there for everyone; from snowman dog collars to reindeer and Santa collars, to holiday stripes, to cartoon characters (like Snoopy and Scooby-Doo) and even peppermint stick designs, you will surely find one that is right for you and your pooch. You can even purchase a holiday wreath dog ID tag! If holiday themed collars are not your thing, you can still go with any number of other designer collars (Louis Vuitton or Gucci, to name a few) – the choices are endless.
Pet Holiday Collar

Even though you are purchasing a designer dog collar for Christmas, fit and size must still be a consideration to ensure your dog is comfortable. Like with all collars, no matter what time of the year you buy them, make sure to measure your dog’s neck prior to purchase and as a rule, ensure that at least one to three fingers can fit between your dog’s neck and the collar (depending on the size of your dog). If buying a designer collar for a puppy, it should be one that will grow and expand as your puppy does. The collar you choose should also be easy to clean and stand up to the type of lifestyle your dog is accustomed to.
So what are you waiting for? Get out there and get shopping so your proud pup can look forward to showing off their new designer collar at Christmas time!

How Spooky Dogs and Scaredy Cats Have Fun on Halloween
Remember how fun it was to put on a costume and run around the neighborhood on Halloween? Halloween brings out your goofy, fun, creative side. I mean, who doesn’t love to act like a swashbuckler or prom queen once a year? I know some people who love Halloween so much that they even dress up their pets. For instance, my friend’s Pug makes a very cute bunny rabbit.
You want your pets to participate in all the fun, but Halloween can present some scary issues, including uncomfortable costumes, getting into candy and knocking over pumpkins. There are also spooky noises and unfamiliar people to deal with. Here are a few tips for having a safe and fun Halloween.
Looking for something different?
Check out the other dog costumes available on Amazon.com.
Remember how the costumes and masks you wore as a kid got hot and itchy? That’s how your pets may feel in a costume. Make sure no parts of the costume are blocking your pet’s eyes or nose, and that it’s not restricting the neck, chest or legs. If you want to dress up your furry companion, plenty of pet Halloween costumes are available in stores and online. You could also get creative and make your own.
Not all pets will go along with being dressed up, and will claw their way out of whatever you put them in. With these pets, be kind and go with a minimalist look for Halloween. My black Lab would not tolerate anything around her chest or on her head. So after some struggle trying to get her to keep a hat or sunglasses on, we settled for a simple but festive orange bandana.
Candy and Other Dangerous Foods
No chocolate for dogs – ever! It’s a good idea to keep all candy away from your pets, but chocolate is especially dangerous for dogs. The chemical theobromine in chocolate can cause vomiting and can even be fatal.
Other foods you should avoid giving pets include macadamia nuts, grapes and raisins. Macadamia nuts can cause tremors and temporary paralysis. Grapes and raisins have caused renal failure in dogs.
Candy wrappers are another hazard. Trick-or-treaters of all ages may leave wrappers strewn around in their excitement to get to the candy. Remind candy lovers to pick them up – wrappers are a choking hazard for pets and can cause digestive problems.
Decorations
According to the National Retail Federation, roughly half of Americans buy decorations for Halloween. Just keep those festive decorations out of the way of the animals in the house or yard. Pets can easily get tangled in electrical cords, strings of lights or items that hang from doors, trees, or walls.
While you may see fun Halloween decorations around the house, your pets see exciting new chew toys. Even pumpkins with a candle inside can burn a child or animal or be tipped over and start a fire. Make sure to keep them out of reach.
Noise
Scary noises are a big part of Halloween, from the motion-activated talking skulls to the kids trying to spook each other with a scream. All this ruckus can be confusing for animals. Some just like to hide out, while others want to dive in and bark or play. For a pet who likes peace and quiet, find a calmer place. For one who likes to be in the middle of the fun, just keep an eye out for overstimulation, such as barking or jumping on people. Give that pet a break from the excitement in a quiet room or yard.
Visitors
If you’re having a holiday gathering, check in with your guests to find out if they enjoy animal company or if they have allergies or other pet issues. Some people are simply afraid of certain animals because of some previous experience. Respect those feelings and make other arrangements for your pets.
Before trick-or-treaters and guest arrive, give your pets some extra attention to help them feel safe. Then keep an eye on how the people and pets are getting along. Be responsive if your pets are getting too excited or anxious; move them to a quieter spot and calm them down with soothing talk and strokes.
When your pets are safe and your guests are comfortable, you can relax and really enjoy the holiday. Put on your mask and have some fun. Happy Halloween!

Leather Dog Collars and Leashes
For most people, owning a dog is actually like having children. It is not enough that you love your pet; you have to think about its dietary needs, physical well being, grooming, etc. Most people also carefully deliberate on the kind of collar they want to buy for their beloved pets. Collars and leashes were made so that owners could train their dogs to behave; their use is not limited to going around the block to chase some stray cat or the postman.
Buckle Collars are usually made of either nylon or leather. These buckle collars close with a buckle, thus their name. A buckle collar is nice, simple yet elegant. These are easy to clean and they are very functional. For these reasons, they are the most commonly preferred type of dog collar.
Flea Collars
Fleas make short work of your dog’s health. Even if your dog eats 4 times a day or more, fleas multiply at a very rapid rate so that your dog becomes a live feed source for more fleas than your dog can handle.
Flea collars are laced with flea-repellent chemicals. The main purpose of such a collar is not leash, tag or collar charm anchorage but to control flea spread and infestation. Typically, the layers of the collar is soaked in or treated with the anti-flea solution to protect both the dog and the owner. Flea collars, however, are considered by most owners as more of a supplementary item rather than a necessity.
Elizabethan Collar
The Elizabethan collar was developed to prevent dogs (and cats too) from scratching their wounds which could be located in the neck and or head area. This type of collar reduces the risk of additional infection.
Slip Chain
Next we come to the Slip chain (Choke chain) which is a type of collar mainly used for training. This collar is usually made of nylon or a link chain. Its main distinguishing feature is the sloop rings attached at both ends of the collar. The leash is slipped through these rings. With proper pressure and leash manipulation, the slip chain collar will tighten. Letting go of the tension on the chain will loosen the loop around the dog’s neck.
This type of collar is best for owners who notice that their dogs are beginning to be hard headed and sometimes a simple whistle or a command is no good.
Muzzles
Now we come to the Muzzles, which are restraining devices that can be placed over a dog’s face to prevent it from biting. Muzzles are usually used when a dog has developed rabies or when the pup is teething. They are usually made of nylon, leather or plastic. They have an open area which allows the dog to breathe freely and comfortably. Take note however that some muzzles can be ineffective when its size or length is not a perfect fit to your dog. Velcro type muzzles are most effective because of their ease of use.
Leashes and collars are not just good for training discipline and keeping your dogs safe from harm. They can also be a great asset to blind people. Dogs that are trained to lead blind men have the trolley leash which help guide the blind person wherever he/she wants to go.

Gucci Dog Collar and Other High End Dog Collars
One of the hottest fashion accessories to hit the market recently are high end dog collars. And high end they can be, on the price that is! Some of the styles from Gucci, LV or Chanell can reach as much as $700! Ouch! These designer collars have always been around and always will. The average shopper simply doesn’t come into contact with them as they aren’t normally out on display.
Recently other designers, particularly those known for their handbags and accessories, have begun to get in on this lucrative market. Fashion names like Coach, Liz Claiborne, Burberry, Dooney & Bourke etc have brought the prices of these fashion dog collars down to earth. You will often find a small separate section of these adorable collars and leashes right beside your favorite hobo or tote bag!
And why not? People will pay $8 or more per gallon for bottled water so dropping a Ben Franklin on a fashion collar for your spoiled pooch is easily justified! For the fashion conscious, a matching designer dog collar to compliment your designer handbag, umbrella, scarf or other accessory is quite a statement! Not only will you both look great but little Fifi will get more of the much needed attention he craves and appreciate what you’ve done!
The quality of these collars is usually good. Of course, the $700 LV had better last a lifetime, and it probably will! The Claiborne collars are usually very affordable, under $15.00, but not of great quality and not much of a selection. The Dooney’s are usually under $40 but again, not much of a choice and the quality is not what you’d expect.
So the question remains, “Is there such a thing as affordable, stylish $30 – $50 designer collars that will hold up?” “Can I justify spending this?” Yes! The answer to that is hands down, Coach! They have a very nice variety and most of them, even the large collars, fall right within that range. Their dog collars are made of the same quality leather and hardware found in their handbags and the style tends to be a cross between high end and cute! The craftsmanship is superb. These collars aren’t going to tear or shred and they aren’t so stiff and thick as to strangle your little buddy either.
Most of the Coach dog collars come with some nice decorative hardware with room for engraving and there are many colors, sizes and styles to choose from. Much more to choose from than Dooney or Liz or anyone else. It seems this company saw the future of this fashion trend and didn’t waste any time capitalizing on it.
There are also a lot of no name companies putting very cheap “designer inspired” dog collars out on the market. They are generally not of good quality. Most of them have lots of rhinestones or fancy patterns but they will fall apart on you. The leather is not of good quality and the stitching is usually loose. For just a few more bucks you can get the quality, style and prestige that comes with a quality brand name collar.
So will Fifi be getting a high end dog collar from me? I think so! There’s plenty of these cute collars to choose from and it’s a fun little thing to do. Perhaps I’ll leave the shopping and selection up to my wife, but the Louis Vuitton is definitely out. The fact that he’s a French Poodle will not sway me on this one!

Pink Rhinestone Dog Collars and Charms
Rhinestone Jeweled Crocodile Leather Dog Collar
Available at Amazon.com.
Making Your Pooch Fashionable With A Rhinestone Dog Collar
In the past, chic pet accessories such as the rhinestone dog collar were so hot, however some people thought they were too gaudy for animals and thus their popularity declined. However, with the renaissance of flash and bling, rhinestone dog collars are becoming a hot item once more. People are now recognizing that their pooches also deserve to be stylish in their own right.
Dog lovers treasure their pets very much, and one way of showing high regard for their pet is by giving them something that makes them stand out and look so special. Most dog owners express their pet’s individuality through their collars. There is a wide variety of dog collars to choose from each one catering to different preferences. But the most special among them all is the rhinestone dog collar, which truly makes any pooch look like a million dollars.
Get your pink rhinestone dog collar now from Amazon.com.
Rhinestone dog collars are usually made of leather, cloth, nylon, and even metal with rhinestones embedded on the leash. These tiny, sparkling stones make any color shine, complementing the dog’s eyes and coat. The materials used for rhinestone dog collars are usually very flexible, following the contour of the dog’s neck. It can be a colorful band that is similar to the dog’s owner’s tennis bracelet.
Some rhinestone dog collars can be specially designed to spell out your pet’s name in flashy gems. This is definitely a prettier alternative to the usual dog tag that just has your pet’s name engraved on a small sheet of metal.
Before, rhinestone dog collars are only worn by female pets, but with the emergence of metrosexuality, even male dogs can wear rhinestone collars without much problem. For those who still prefer their dogs to maintain a butch image, there are also rhinestone collars that come in rugged designs that complement their pooch’s macho impression. Examples of these are those black leather collars with a few big rhinestone studs that are well-spaced.
Rhinestone dog collars may come with buckle or snap-on closures. Whatever kind of rhinestone collar you choose, you must make sure that it closes securely so that it would not fall off easily. Snap-on closures are usually convenient, especially for small toy dogs. However larger dogs usually need more security which only buckled collars can provide. It is thus important to test whether the kind of lock the collar you are buying would withstand the strength and size of your pet.
When you are considering to get your pet dog a new rhinestone dog collar, it is important to make sure that the collar fits well and the gems are properly secured. You would not want Fido to be able to remove the collar easily and then chew or choke on the sharp little stones. You should check the collar regularly to see that there is no damage with the material and all the stones are in place. Always watch out if a stone falls off so that you can quickly keep it away from your dog’s reach.
An easy way of measuring the fit of your dog’s rhinestone collar would be the finger test. If you have a small dog, one finger should fit snugly between the dog’s neck and collar. For medium dogs you would need two fingers. Large dogs would need three fingers. If the rhinestone collar is too tight, it can choke your dog and kill it, but if it is too loose, it can easily fall off and get lost.
Other than these reminders, rhinestone dog collars are not really that difficult to maintain. You just need to clean the collar once in a while to maintain the brilliance of the tiny gems. You would probably just need water, with a little mild detergent to remove stubborn grime and stains. Missing pieces might not be inevitable so it is wise to keep some spare gems to replace those that would eventually fall off.
In these times when being fashionable is already considered an asset, dogs can keep up with their owners with the accessories that they wear. Perhaps the best way to glamorize your dog is to have it wear a rhinestone collar. It serves the purpose of regular collars but adds style and flair to your most beloved pet.

Designer Dog Clothes, Jewelry And Gourmet Food: Is Your Dog Spoiled Or Part Of The Family?
I was dodging raindrops and puddles as I walked the short distance to my office. As I was passing a local house, I saw an elderly woman standing near the entrance holding an umbrella over her little white puppy. Unfortunately, the umbrella wasn’t large enough to cover both her and the dog, so she was getting soaked.
Unable to withhold comment, I said, ‘Do you think he’ll mind if he gets wet?’ She responded, ‘Well the truth is that if I don’t hold the umbrella for him he gets angry and pouts and won’t eat his lunch.’ And, by dinnertime he’s absolutely unbearable!
Welcome to the world of the spoiled dog.
Although man’s best friend has always been his dog, the degree to which man has rewarded that friendship has quite possibly gotten out of hand. Evidence to support that statement can be found in the food we give our dog, the brand name ‘designer dog clothes‘ we put on their backs, the jewelry and special diets.
We send ‘Rover’ to counseling sessions with dog psychologists, clip/wash/curl their hair and make sure their nails are done so as not to embarrass them in front of their doggy friends.
How many of us have spent a restless night because ‘Missy’, our pug faced Pekinese, can’t seem to get comfortable in our bed or ‘Bull’, our six ounce Chihuahua, growls and snaps at us when we roll over on him.
Yes, for those of you that are disbelievers, many people do share their beds with their doggies. In fact, I’ve heard of many cases where couples sleep apart rather than crowd the dog. Have you ever tried to argue with a sleepy Doberman Pincher? Forget about it!
A thriving and lucrative industry has grown up around the pampered pet. Pet owners spend multi-millions each year on their little four-legged friends. Occasionally the news media will offer a blurb about the pet owner who spent thousands of dollars on a diamond studded dog collar.
Now let’s get down to diet – what can we feed ‘Prince’, the proud Rottweiler? To be honest, Prince isn’t all that fond of dry dog food. He’ll eat some of it, but only if mixed with some of that delicious home made lamb gravy he likes. And, just like most of us, he prefers light fare in the mornings; perhaps a few scrambled eggs and just a slice or two of crispy bacon.
No need to make a big fuss about dinner though, he’ll usually eat most of what you’re having, maybe before you get to it!
This scenario might involve a slight stretch, but it is certainly not too far fetched. We worry more about what our pets will eat, or if they’re ‘off their feed’, than we worry about what our kids eat. I wonder how it is we know that our kids will eat when they get hungry, but we can’t accept that this might apply to our dogs too.
We feel compelled to continue to offer our dogs a full menu from which to select and if all else fails, it’s time to schedule a trip to the Vet.
Speaking of Veterinarians – most of them now offer direct deposit so your entire paycheck can be directed right into their accounts. Veterinary expenses have gone through the roof and there’s no end to the elaborate medical procedures now being provided routinely.
A friend who complained for months about the cost of dental appliances (braces) for his kid willingly shelled out $2500 to fix his dog’s overbite because ‘Tiger’ appeared to be in discomfort when chewing on his rawhide bone.
Now that we’ve clearly established that we spoil our dogs, let’s offer a word or two in our own defense. Dogs love us without reservation. Scold them, treat then meanly, tease them, and they’ll still love you unconditionally.
In history, dogs have given their lives for their masters. ‘Police’ dogs will face an armed attacker to protect their handler and ‘Seeing Eye’ dogs will risk death or injury to steer their Charge away from a speeding car. A dog’s love for its master is pure and unquestioning. In my opinion, they deserve all the pampering they can get.
Pets, especially dogs, make us feel good. They comfort us, allow us to be ourselves and give those of us that need it, a reason for living. After all, there is always a warm welcome when you arrive home, and so deserve to be served, spoiled and looked after like a member of the family.

Martingale Dog Collars
Find a Large Assortment of Martingale Dog Collars at Amazon.com.
What are Martingale Dog Collars?
Martingale dog collars were primarily created for sighthounds but over the years, it has been determined that these collars are perfect for all breeds of dogs. Martingale dog collars, also known as humane choke collars, are great for training, puppies, and difficult to handle dogs. They are easy on the dogs neck thereby not creating any damage while controlling or training.
Martingale dog collars slip over the dogs head and sit loosely on the neck. When the dog pulls, the collar tightens so that you gain more control over your dog and the message is relayed to the dog that this is an undesirable behavior. These collars are wide enough that when they tighten, the pull is distributed over a larger area of the neck than the older style of choke collar; this is what makes these collars more humane and less dangerous to the dog.
The benefits of a martingale dog collar:
- easier control of your dog without the use of physical force
- perfect for training a puppy
- perfect for a difficult to handle dog
- perfect for teaching a dog what is undesirable behavior
- humane choke collar that will not damage your dogs neck
- no clips or buckles to break
Martingale dog collars should be used as the regular dog collar for walks, for rides, for training. These are all purpose dog collars.
These collars are created in varying widths: ‘, 1′, 1 ‘ and 2′. The width you choose will depend on the size of your dog. For tiny to small dogs, the ‘ collar is recommended. For dogs with short necks, the 1′ collar is recommended. For dogs with long necks, a 1 ‘ or 2′ collar is best.
Martingale dog collars come in a range of sizes therefore will fit a growing puppy for many months. They can be created to fit a large range in size (e.g.: 10′ – 20′) and can be loosened to fit as the puppy grows. This eliminates the need to purchase a new collar every month or two for a growing puppy.
I have never known a dog to not like a martingale dog collar. They are easy to put on and if fitted properly, are very comfortable for the dog.
The first time walking your dog with a martingale dog collar:
Make sure that the collar fits snug around your dogs neck; with the allowance of two to three fingers between the neck and the collar. Use the slider on the collar to adjust to fit.
When walking your dog, let the collar do the work. If your dog pulls, the martingale dog collar will automatically tighten. When the collar tightens, your dog should stop pulling. This may take a few times before your dog realizes not to pull or the collar will tighten around his/her neck.
The tightening of the collar does not hurt your dog, just makes it uncomfortable enough that he/she should eventually learns the proper behavior and avoids any discomfort.
Maintenance:
Martingale dog collars are washable. Whenever the collar gets dirty, place it in a pillowcase or laundry bag and put it through the gentle cycle of your washing machine. Hang to dry.
As well as being a great collar, martingale dog collars are also very stylish. They come in many sizes, colors and widths. You can have plain martingale collars, everyday martingale dog collars, themed martingale dog collar, special occasion martingale dog collars, and fancy martingale dog collars. So many choices for such great collar.
Electric Fence Dog Collars
Set Up Boundaries With A Dog Fence Collar.
Available Now on Amazon.com
A dog fence collar is a way to train and keep your pet dog on your side of the fence. These systems will help to make sure your pet dog doesn’t wander about where it shouldn’t.
Dog fences consist of a buried yard wire connected to an indoor radio transmitter. When the dog approaches the wire, a special dog fence collar worn around his neck delivers a brief, totally harmless correction that discourages him from crossing the boundary. The same collar which keeps the dog inside the radio fence also allows the owner to give the dog corrections on demand with a remote control.
Stop Worrying, and Get Your Electric Fence Today!
These collars can also be used to curb unwanted behaviors. If your dog won’t stop barking, the stimulation on the collar automatically increases as barking continues, causing your dog to learn his lesson quickly about nonstop barking.
Choosing an electric fence can save you many aggravations. Dogs can jump over, chew through, and even dig under most other types of fences leaving you helpless. When you are certain (usually after a few training sessions) that your pet is actively avoiding the Correction Zone, then you can take him off the leash. Make sure to supervise your dog during this time, until you are positive that he understands how the dog fence works.
It is worth noting however, that a dog fence collar is not generally used for training hunting dogs as these animals are meant to freely roam the fields looking for game.
Generally a dog fence collars lithium ion battery will be fully charged in 2-3 hours to give weeks of uninterrupted use. On the market today are a wide range of electronic training aids including remote trainers, bark collars and a variety of dog containment systems. These products are made to meet the special needs of dog owners all over the world.
There are so many different training collars, containment systems and bark collars available that it’s hard to pick the right one but the effects and desired outcomes remain the same.
The dog magically stays in his yard with what appears to be no restraint. These systems also work well implanted around flower beds and other off-limits places, including certain rooms in the house. TRAINING YOUR DOG TO RECOGNIZE THE INSTANT FENCE BOUNDARIES: Once you have adjusted the signal to the perimeter you want, mark the boundary by placing small training flags at the edge of the signal area. Then, using a leash and holding the collar, walk your pet around the boundary, pointing and shaking the flags, saying “NO,” and letting your pet hear the beeping of the collar. Begin training by holding the spray collar in your hand and leading your dog, with a regular collar and leash, to the boundaries of the fence all the way around the yard. Pickup a boundary flag and give your dog a strong “NO” command, allowing him to hear the beeping from the spray collar. Dogs should be between 4 and 6 months of age and able to obey simple commands such as “sit” and “come.”. He should also be trained on the leash.

Show Your Pet You Care With an Imaginative Gift

The old adage that a dog is a man’s best friend remains true in modern times as pets of all kinds are now being treated more as one of the family.
One of the easiest ways to include a pet in a home is to give it the same sorts of as the human members of the household. Celebrating a dog’s birthday, for instance, can make him feel special and gives you a great reason to spend the whole day spoiling him. Nowadays, stores cater for such occasions with special birthday cakes as well as edible greeting cards. Cats will prefer a slightly different treat and kitty caviar is available from premium pet shops.
Clothes and canines are becoming more and more popular. Although some celebrities may buy dogs purely as a fashion accessory, many dogs are now being dressed to impress. Specialists sell everything a dog could wish for – from a fancy collar, to jewelery, to dresses – meaning dog owners now have the option to turn their pets into fashionistas.
Rather than buying an extravagant luxury, your pet may appreciate a less lavish gift that will give long term benefits. Does your dog have a comfortable bed? Is your cat flap in need of an upgrade? Would your bird like a larger cage to fly about in? Whilst these gifts may not show an immediate change in your pet, over the next few weeks and months you should hopefully notice that he seems happier as he makes use of his new environment.
If you adopted your pet, you may not know its actual date of birth. If this is the case, rather than celebrating its birthday, you could always use National Dog Day – 26 August – as the day for spoiling your pet. Other animals celebrate their dedicated days on different dates – cats on 29 October and birds on 5 January.
Although not as entertaining as giving toys or presents, buying pet insurance is a very practical gift to give and shows that you care. Most policies will provide cover for expenses incurred if your pet ever needs to visit the vet – something that can be very costly if your animal ever needs major or lengthy treatment.
Of course, with the best presents it is always the thought that counts. Sometimes the best thing to give is something simple – a dog will always appreciate a walk in the park and a stick to chase – and splashing out is not always necessary.
